"
Just Trust Me" (Part 3)

 by Don Emmitte

The helpless put their trust in you. You are the defender of orphans. You are the defender of orphans. Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is destroyed! The LORD is king forever and ever! Let those who worship other gods be swept from the land. LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will listen to their cries and comfort them. (Psalm 10:14b-16 NLT).

We’ve been talking about trust and the hope it brings in our lives this week. You may be thinking that I have simplified the issues. Perhaps you are thinking that your situation is so desperate that I could not possibly understand the depth of difficulty you are facing. I cannot deny that some may be in a situation today and they’ve gotten to the point where everything looks helpless. I have GREAT news for you! You are in a prime position for God to be your Helper. God loves to help the helpless.

God loves to do those things, which give Him glory. It does not glorify God when you can help yourself. It gives Him no glory when you “find a way out” of your situation apart from Him. As smart as He may have made you, and as many experiences as you may have had, God wants to be an integral part of our lives. That gives Him glory. That builds our character. That helps us to trust Him even more.

Much of our trouble is that we tend to be in such a hurry for God to take care of us. Sometimes, he has a greater, larger purpose in mind as we walk through the challenges of our lives. Slowing down and trusting God is an important part of experiencing victory. The photographer for a national magazine was assigned to get photos of a great forest fire. Smoke at the scene hampered him and he asked his home office to hire a plane. Arrangements were made and he was told to go at once to a nearby airport, where the plane would be waiting. When he arrived at the airport, a plane was warming up near the runway. He jumped in with his equipment and yelled, “Let’s go! Let’s go!” The pilot swung the plane into the wind and they soon were in the air. “Fly over the north side of the fire,” yelled the photographer, “and make three or four low level passes.” “Why?” asked the pilot. “Because I’m going to take pictures,” cried the photographer. “I’m a photographer and photographers take pictures!” After a pause the pilot said, “You mean you’re not the instructor?”

Slow down. God has heard your cries for deliverance. He will not fail you. Trust him for the next step, not the whole journey. In fact, if we really knew the entire journey, we may be so paralyzed with fear, we couldn’t move! Slow down and trust Him!
