"Mighty Is Our God" (Part 3)

 by Don Emmitte

So at last the king gave orders for Daniel to be arrested and thrown into the den of lions. The king said to him, "May your God, whom you worship continually, rescue you." A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den. The king sealed the stone with his own royal seal and the seals of his nobles, so that no one could rescue Daniel from the lions. Then the king returned to his palace and spent the night fasting. He refused his usual entertainment and couldn't sleep at all that night. Very early the next morning, the king hurried out to the lions' den. When he got there, he called out in anguish, "Daniel, servant of the living God! Was your God, whom you worship continually, able to rescue you from the lions?" Daniel answered, "Long live the king! My God sent his angel to shut the lions' mouths so that they would not hurt me, for I have been found innocent in his sight. And I have not wronged you, Your Majesty." The king was overjoyed and ordered that Daniel be lifted from the den. Not a scratch was found on him because he had trusted in his God. (Daniel 6:16-23 NLT).

The people of Israel and the parting of the Red Sea, the three friends of Daniel in the fiery furnace, and today Daniel himself all were recipients of the mighty acts of God. God rescued them. He can do the same for you today. Think about Daniel’s story.

He had a very significant decision to make. Would he obey the laws of man or God? Would he continue to pray, as was his daily custom? The king declared it illegal to call upon any God, except his very self. Daniel, the man of God, had but one choice. He continued to pray to the mighty and awesome God, whom he served and continued to serve.

King Darius signed the decree and now he carried out its sentence. Daniel was thrown to the lions. Those who defied the king would be served as tiny morsels for those hungry animals. Daniel’s life was in the Lord God Almighty’s hands. The lions surrounded their prey. But God worked the seemingly impossible. God tamed their beastly nature and petted these overgrown kitties. King Darius was relieved. He realized, that these plotting men, hoped to rid themselves of Daniel by Darius’ decree. What they could not do for themselves, these lions would do for them.

Well surprise, surprise, surprise… who said anything about lions and their need for midnight snacks? God changed the attitude of those lions. Daniel entered the den with the lions. Upon his release, they were kitty cats. God will tame the lions in your life too! Who in your life, today, bears down on you, ready to pounce, just as these hungry lions? God stood before these lions and transformed them, lions to kitty cats. God worked his mighty deeds. Ask Him, right now, to go before you into the lions’ den and bring you home a docile, and cuddly pet.
