"Advanced Life
(Part 3)"
by Don Emmitte

One day the widow of one of Elisha's fellow prophets came to Elisha and cried out to him, "My husband who served you is dead, and you know how he feared the LORD. But now a creditor has come, threatening to take my two sons as slaves." "What can I do to help you?" Elisha asked. "Tell me, what do you have in the house?" "Nothing at all, except a flask of olive oil," she replied. And Elisha said, "Borrow as many empty jars as you can from your friends and neighbors. Then go into your house with your sons and shut the door behind you. Pour olive oil from your flask into the jars, setting the jars aside as they are filled." So she did as she was told. Her sons brought many jars to her, and she filled one after another. Soon every container was full to the brim! "Bring me another jar," she said to one of her sons. "There aren't any more!" he told her. And then the olive oil stopped flowing. When she told the man of God what had happened, he said to her, "Now sell the olive oil and pay your debts, and there will be enough money left over to support you and your sons." (2 Kings 4:1-7 NLT).

This morning we see a third principle at work in the life of this widow. God’s blessings are limitless. The jar she thought was soon to be empty, kept on pouring. The blessings of God will never run out. He will be enough to meet you at your point of need.

They thought they had very little oil. Remember when this widow came to Elisha in utter despair, she thought she was about to lose her two children. She didn’t have enough oil to feed her family, certainly not enough to fill someone else’s jar. She filled, however, as many as she borrowed! I am fully convinced, that if she had borrowed more jars, there would have been more oil! God’s blessings will never run out as long as you have need and you have the ability to be filled by Him.

This widow obeyed the word of God. If she had not trusted Elisha, she would not have had any jars to fill. If she had trusted him even more, and gathered more jars, imagine what she might have been able to do. The bottom line for me, however, is that God came true for her, and He will come true for you!

The great principle of this story for me is that while she was faithfully serving God, being obedient to His Word, God was working a miracle in her life, even beyond what she had imagined. How much are you willing to let God do in your life? Are you willing to trust Him with everything you have? Are you willing to allow Him to take you wherever He desires? Are you willing to stretch your life and your comfort zone so that He might fill it with His plans? God wants to bless you beyond what you can imagine. Will you allow Him to?
