In
the beginning the Word already existed. He was with God, and he was God.
He was in the beginning with God. He created everything there is. Nothing
exists that he didn't make. Life itself was in him, and this life gives
light to everyone. The light shines through the darkness, and the darkness
can never extinguish it.
(John 1:1-5 NLV). While driving through the winding roads of Louisiana there was a light rain and the blacktop was a little slick. Sandy suddenly lost control of her car. The car was headed straight toward the bayou. It happened so fast that she couldn't move quickly enough to escape from the sinking automobile. It was too dark for her to see clearly, but there was a small light coming from the glove compartment, which was now the highest point of the car. Quickly, she made her way to the light. Surrounding the light was a small pocket of air. She drew a deep breath and began making one trip after another from the air pocket to the door handle and then back again for more air. The light that showed her the way and the air she was drawing into her lungs made survival possible. Then, after what seemed like hours, she finally managed to get the door open and swim to safety. Sandy's story is much like life. Your life may have hit a slick spot and come to a crashing halt. The quiet desperation of you life seems to be drowning you. If this is what your life seems like today, then there is good news for you! There is a light in your life that will lead you to safety! The light, even if it appears small to you right now, is enough to point you in the right direction. Jesus said, "I am the light of the world." The pocket of air near the light is a secret hiding place where you can come to Him and cast your cares on Him. In this secret place, as you meditate in His word and talk to Him in prayer, it will be life to you as the precious air was to Sandy. As you continue to do this, He will continue to give you His peace and whether the circumstances change or not, the One who loves you unconditionally will wrap you up in His arms and bring healing and comfort your heart. During a recent hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico, a news report highlighted a rescue device used on the oil rigs. In case of fire or (in this case) hurricane, rig workers scramble into the bullet-shaped “bus” and strap themselves into their seats. When the entry port is shut, the vehicle is released down a chute and projected away from the rig. The seat belts protect the occupants from the impact with the water. The capsule then bobs in the sea until rescuers come to pick it up. Justification does not mean our world always stops falling apart. The rig still may topple in the hurricane. But those in the right place, whether a rescue module or spiritually in the storm. The storm will take its course. The welfare of the workers depends on whether they are IN the rescue device. Are you IN Jesus today? Trust Him. |
