The word of the Lord came to me, saying, "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." "Ah, Sovereign Lord," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child." But the Lord said to me, "Do not say, 'I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 1:4-8 NIV).
When Mary and I were at North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford, TX, the ladies made us a wonderful quilt for our tenth anniversary there. Each of them stitched their names in a square. Many of them have now gone on to be with the Lord. It is a special heirloom to us.
The really special part of the quilt, however, is not the quilt itself, but the work that went into the quilt. They spent weeks gathering the right color materials and hand sewing it. I don't know how many hours of labor went into the making of the quilt, but there were many! There are also as many hours of love into that quilt. It was a very special gift!
When I think about the many years God waited for me to be born. We knew well in advance before the twins were to be born, but God knew thousands of years before they came into existence. At each advance and doctor’s appointment we received more and more information about them. It wasn’t long before we knew that one was going to be a boy and the other a female. Kyle and Brandy soon decided on names, so that they would no longer be called “Baby A” and “Baby B.” Faith and Logan became the center of our attention, but we still didn’t know all about them. In fact, now, nearly four and a half years later we are still discovering new things about them.
But before they were ever formed in the womb, God knew everything! How excited must He have been the day they arrived! God must have surely been joyful at the unveiling of His creation! And, He continues to look on with excitement as they grow into the beautiful creations He intended.
God feels the same way about you, by the way! He’s known you longer and better than anyone else. He waited so long for your arrival that He surely loves you more than you will ever comprehend. Marvel today with me about the awesomeness of a God so great that would know and love us so well! Is there anything he wouldn't do for us? Nothing at least that is for our good! What an awesome God we call Father! |
