Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge
Him, and He will make your paths straight. (Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV).
The past few days have been some of those days when I really needed to
know that if I put my trust in Christ, which I am, He will direct my
paths. You know those kinds of days, don’t you? It’s the kinds of days
when we just need a reminder that this faith of ours is not placed in
vain; that we have our hope in the right place. During those times I
have found that I just need to tell myself over again, through God's
Word, that everything will be alright, because I have trusted in the
right resource.
You see, I have leaned completely on the Lord. I have given Him
everything I have. I have turned over to Him my work, my friends, even
my wife, children, and grandchildren. He's got it all! I have held
nothing back! I must admit, it is a vulnerable position to be in. And,
over the last few weeks, if I allowed myself, I could easily doubt my
decision. Perhaps that’s because some new things are developing in the
area of ministry (I promise to tell you more about that later). Perhaps
it’s because the devil is whispering a little louder than usual trying
to create doubts. Perhaps it’s a combination of those things and many
others that I don’t even yet recognize.
Whatever the reason for the calling to renew my sense of trust, I have
found that when I simply remember that God has made a promise to me, and
that He always keeps His promises, everything comes into focus again and
I find my peace. To get to that point I go back to our reading today.
Maybe you need that same
reassurance… read it again and believe it in your heart and soul.
